Fr. Sidney Griffith

Fr. Sidney Griffith, Professor of Semitic Languages and Literature at the Catholic University of AmericaFr. Sidney Griffith is an Ordinary Professor in the Department of Semitic and Egyptian Languages and Literatures at Catholic University of America, with a concentration in Syriac and Christian Arabic.

 

He was ordained in 1965 and joined the faculty at CUA in 1977. He has published a number of scholarly studies in the areas of Syriac Patrology, concentrating on St. Ephraem the Syrian, and Christian Theology in Arabic, including the history of Muslim Christian relations in the early Islamic period. 

His most recent book is: The Church in the Shadow of the Mosque: Christians and Muslims in the World of Isllam (Princeton, NJ: Princeton University Press, 2007).
