Holy Mass

Archbishop H.E. Diarmuid Martin

Celebrated by Archbishop H.E. Diarmuid MARTIN, Archbishop of Dublin, with music by the Deanna Witkowski Trio, featuring Deanna WITKOWSKI, New York-based jazz pianist, composer, and vocalist. Winner of the Great American Jazz Piano Competition and a past guest on Marian McPartland’s Piano Jazz, Witkowski has been heralded for her “consistently thrilling” playing and her “boundless imagination” (All Music Guide). Moving with remarkable ease between Brazilian, jazz, and classical music, Witkowski approaches her work with the heart and technique of a daring improviser. Her 2009 recording, From This Place, marries liturgical texts with the richness of jazz and led to a return appearance on NPR’s Weekend Edition Sunday. Her trio presentation, Moving with the Spirit: The Sacred Jazz of Mary Lou Williams, has been presented at the Kennedy Center and Duke University. Witkowski’s forthcoming recording, a solo project melding Chopin nocturnes, Brazilian standards, and jazz, will be released in May 2012. Witkowski holds a M.A. in jazz piano performance from the City College of New York and a B.M. in classical piano performance from Wheaton College (IL).
